What all is involved in the job description of a dental assistant? As a dental assistant, you would be under the direct supervision of a dentist. Your job will be to assist with oral surgery and other dental procedures that your dentist will perform. Before the surgery or procedures take place, you will be in charge of preparing the necessary instruments that will be needed for that procedure. After you have prepared all the equipment that is necessary, your job will then be to assist the dentist by handing him or her the necessary tools and equipment that they require during the procedure.
